More Strategy Sessions Aren't Always the Best Add-Ons for Your Clients

As a business consultant, I'm always striving to provide the best support possible to my clients. I've been working with entrepreneurs for over six years now, and I have been able to support newly budding entrepreneurs and women who have been in business 15+ years. Throughout that time, I have offered a series of services, from 1:1 consulting services, done-for-you services, group programs, and more. This has given me a lot of insight into what coaches, consultants, and service providers struggle with, but also how I can better serve them.

In the past, I thought if I was going to charge higher prices or give my clients the best value, then I needed to offer more access to me and more consulting sessions.

However, after talking with my clients, assessing their needs, and doing some research within my business, I realized that this may not be the best solution. In fact, my clients were independent enough to take action on their own and didn’t need a lot of hand-holding. They prefer the strategy with resources to implement and strategy sessions to go over their results. Now, this isn’t all of my clients, but I can say that all of my clients are action-takers and like to jump in and get things done.

Don't get me wrong - I absolutely love being accessible to my clients! It ensures they get the support they need from me. However, it's become clear that what they really need are tools they can use for more implementation and better execution of the strategies I teach them.

That's why I want to share with you some of the benefits of offering resources like scripts, templates, checklists, and other tools that don't necessarily require more calls to accompany your services. Not to mention, this is a bomb way to level up your client experience. 😏

First and foremost, providing self-paced resources rather than more calls offers your clients more flexibility and autonomy. As busy people themselves, they may not have the time to schedule more calls with you, especially when they're struggling to manage their current workload. By giving them resources they can access on their own time, you're freeing up their schedule and enabling them to work through the materials at their own pace. By using project management (I love ClickUp) and communication software (platforms like Slack), my clients can reach out to me and submit their work. This allows us to maximize our time between calls as well.

Self-paced resources help your clients become more self-sufficient. They'll learn how to manage their own time, stay organized, and show up consistently online without relying on you for constant support. This empowers them to feel more confident and capable, and it frees up more of your time to work with other clients or focus on other aspects of your business.

Another benefit of offering resources is that it demonstrates your commitment to your client’s success. While it's important to be available for support and guidance, your clients may not need or want more calls with you. Providing them with valuable resources they can use on their own shows that you understand their needs, have proven processes, and are dedicated to helping them achieve their goals.

Finally, offering self-paced resources outside of more calls makes your business more scalable. You can create and distribute resources to multiple clients at once, without having to schedule individual meetings or calls. This means you can serve more clients and increase your revenue without sacrificing the quality of your services.

Offering these types of resources has done wonders for my own business. So, if you're a consultant, coach, or service provider, consider adding self-paced resources like scripts, templates, checklists, coursework, and other tools to your offerings. Your clients will appreciate the flexibility, autonomy, and self-sufficiency these resources provide, and you'll be able to serve more clients while creating a more scalable business model.
